This is a Legal Counsel (APAC) role with Kennedys based in Sydney, NSW, AU Kennedys Role Seniority - mid level, senior More about the Legal Counsel (APAC) role at Kennedys Kennedys is currently seeking a Legal Counsel for the Office of General Counsel - APAC. The successful candidate will support the General Counsel – APAC in delivering strategic legal advice, overseeing legal matters (including client and supplier agreement review) and addressing risk and compliance requirements across our Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong operations. This newly created position reports directly to the General Counsel - APAC and sits within the global Risk and Compliance team. Key Responsibilities Working with the General Counsel - APAC to develop, maintain and proactively manage a risk & compliance framework across the APAC region, supporting global risk policies, compliance processes, training and reporting whilst identifying requirements for local variances Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad number of contracts and other agreements and attend to other legal matters, including client service level agreements and supplier agreements Assisting in the resolution of any required legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution processes Assisting in managing the legal professional obligations across all APAC offices of the firm and providing advice in relation to legal professional regulations Developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across the business ensuring that staff awareness of the firm's approach to risk & compliance remains high Analysing and reporting on compliance failures which are material or part of a recurring pattern, making recommendations for action. Assisting in the co-ordination of the firm's accreditation to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems, managing external audits and ensuring awareness of Quality Management processes and procedures in the APAC region Keeping up to date with local regional legal and regulatory compliance and applying the implications of such changes to the firm's situation Assisting to develop and deliver mandatory compliance training throughout the APAC region and receiving reports regarding non-compliance Assisting with day-to-day queries regarding conduct, conflicts and client requirements Assisting with developing and embedding a comprehensive risk & compliance framework to ensure day to day matters are monitored, managed and addressed as required to meet risk and compliance requirements Supporting the delivery of our global Responsible Business strategy and initiatives in the APAC region, managing and delivering related projects on ad hoc basis Review internal governance policies to ensure they are fit for purpose and take into consideration relevant changes as required Working with the Data Risk Team to co-ordinate/managed data privacy registrations and subject access requests Who We Are Looking For A qualified lawyer with three to five years' commercial experience Private practice experience is preferred but candidates with strong commercial inhouse experience (or a combination of the two) will also be considered Commercially minded, pragmatic and business-focused in approach with a solid understanding of how professional services firms operate Mastery of legal issues and the business of law combined with the ability to identify opportunities to use compliance to support the firm Passionate about compliance and risk management and the benefits it can deliver in the context of professional services organisations A strong communicator with excellent presentation skills The proven ability to build effective working relationships at all levels Self motivated with the ability to work under pressure and manage priorities A can-do attitude with the energy to see initiatives through to their conclusion PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply directly to Kennedys.
