23rd February, 2026 Indigeco is supporting a major NSW Government Department in sourcing a Communication & Engagement Business Partner for a 3-year fixed-term contract. This is a senior portfolio-level leadership role supporting the delivery of complex, high-value capital infrastructure programs across metropolitan and regional NSW. This is an Identified position, open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professionals. This role is designed for a professional who can bring valuable cultural knowledge, lived experience, and diverse perspectives to strengthen strategic engagement. About the Job This position plays a pivotal role in leading strategic communication and stakeholder engagement across a designated region or portfolio of major infrastructure projects. This is not a single project communications role. It requires oversight across multiple concurrent projects operating in politically sensitive and high-profile environments. You will provide trusted strategic advice to senior executives, drive consistent, best-practice engagement approaches, and proactively manage stakeholder and reputational risk at a portfolio level. The role operates with a high level of autonomy and influence within a matrix environment and involves collaboration with internal project teams, government stakeholders, contractors, and community representatives. Some intermittent statewide travel may be required. Key Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of portfolio-wide communication and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned to organisational priorities Provide leadership and guidance to communications and engagement staff to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery Proactively identify, assess, and manage stakeholder, reputational, and political risks across multiple concurrent projects Forecast emerging risks and implement early intervention strategies to mitigate impact and protect organisational reputation Oversee media management, community engagement, and complex issues management across the portfolio Build and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders, delivery partners, contractors, and community groups Embed governance frameworks, reporting, and evaluation processes to drive consistency and best practice across communications and engagement functions Operate effectively within a complex and politically sensitive government environment Key Requirements Extensive senior-level experience leading communications and engagement across a portfolio comprising multiple complex projects, not solely a single project environment Demonstrated strategic risk management capability, including forecasting communication challenges and managing politically sensitive and high-risk programs Proven ability to influence and build strategic partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders at the executive level Strong experience within government, major infrastructure, or large complex corporate environments Demonstrated experience operating within matrix structures and influencing without direct authority Tertiary qualifications in communications, stakeholder engagement, or a related discipline IAP2 qualification is essential NSW driver licence required If you are a senior communications leader experienced in managing reputation, stakeholder strategy, and risk across major infrastructure portfolios, we encourage you to apply or contact Indigeco for a confidential discussion.
