The team is centralised within RBS, but provides specialist Line 2 advice across Retail Banking, Bankwest, while supporting broader Group functions and teams. The role is critical to managing sustained customer uptake, regulatory engagement and regime expansion. We are seeking a technically strong legal or compliance professional to act as a deep subject matter expert in Consumer Data Right (CDR) and Digital Identity. This role is suited to candidates from a regulator (e.g. ACCC, OAIC), corporate law firm, or highly regulated in-house environment who enjoy complex legislative analysis and being the go-to authority on a technical regime. Do work that matters You will provide expert Line 2 advice across: CDR (as Data Holder and Accredited Data Recipient); Expansion of the CDR into Non-Bank Lending; CDR ingestion use cases across CBA, Bankwest and Unloan; ACCC engagement, customer and participant enquiries and technical queries; and ConnectID and Digital ID participation. This is a technically demanding role requiring confident interpretation of primary legislation, rules and technical data standards, and the ability to form clear, defensible positions on novel issues. Key responsibilities Provide technical advice on the CDR Act, CDR Rules, Privacy Safeguards, Consumer Data Standards and associated guidance materials. Interpret complex and ambiguous provisions and translate them into practical, risk-based business guidance. Advise on new products, system changes, data ingestion use cases and digital identity initiatives. Assess incidents against notification thresholds and regulatory obligations. Draft and review responses to regulatory notices, submissions and exemption requests. Provide oversight of CDR Service Management Portal responses and identify systemic themes. Support regulator-facing engagement with clear, structured written analysis. Review consent flows, customer communications, website content and end-to-end processes. Challenge first line positions and drive sustainable remediation outcomes. Contribute to ongoing uplift of the CDR control environment. Your experience looks like Tertiary qualifications in Law. 5 years’ experience in regulatory, legal or compliance advisory roles. Deep expertise in Consumer Data Right (highly regarded). Strong statutory interpretation and legislative analysis capability. Experience at a regulator, law firm, or advising on complex financial services regimes. Demonstrated experience drafting high-quality written advice and regulator correspondence. Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and defending technical positions.
