Cloud Engineer 12 months fixed term role with possibility for extension Adelaide Based Position The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, security and optimisation of the organisation’s Microsoft hybrid cloud, core infrastructure and end-user platforms. The role provides technical capability across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoint management and on-premises infrastructure. The role supports business-as-usual stability while delivering continuous improvement, automation, security uplift and operational resilience in alignment with organisational objectives, Zero Trust principles and regulatory obligations. Responsibilities: Design, administer and optimise Microsoft Azure services across compute, networking, identity and security. Manage Microsoft 365 platforms including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive. Maintain Microsoft Entra ID, Intune and secure hybrid identity and access management. Support and maintain Windows Server and core on-premises infrastructure. Administer Active Directory, DNS and related directory services. Provide senior technical support for VMware virtualisation, including capacity planning, resilience and configuration. Ensure secure and reliable integration between on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms. Support backup, disaster recovery and business continuity controls. Implement security hardening aligned to Zero Trust principles. Partner with Cyber Security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and uplift security controls. Support audit, technology risk and regulatory compliance activities. Maintain secure configuration baselines across cloud, server and endpoint platforms. Qualifications: Over five years of experience working in the IT industry. Strong hands-on experience supporting Microsoft hybrid cloud environments. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Windows Server and Active Directory. Proven experience supporting VMware virtualisation platforms. Strong background supporting end-user computing, desktop environments and endpoints. Solid understanding of DNS, directory services and enterprise identity architecture. Proven ability to operate autonomously in a BAU-intensive environment. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with business and IT stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on quality, reliability and business alignment. Commitment to following standards around build quality, documentation, versioning and operational practices. Microsoft and/or Azure certifications. Desirable: Experience working in regulated or financial services environments. Exposure to automation and infrastructure-as-code practices. Solid scripting capability, particularly PowerShell. Demonstrated experience applying ITIL practices to service management. Experience supporting Genesys and Microsoft Teams calling environments.
