Group wide Business & Finance Transformation Flexible hybrid working $600/650 pd super A large educational organisation is on the lookout for a Senior Network Security Engineer, for a 9 month contract, based out of their head office in the Sydney CBD. The purpose for the role is to provides deep expertise in network security implementation, monitoring, and incident response. A primary focus of this role is collaborating on the transition from traditional perimeter-based security to a Zero Trust architecture. This is a great opportunity to join a Cyber Team at the forefront of a huge Cyber Transformation. The day rate is $1150 super per day for the right person with guaranteed extensions into 2027. Key Accountabilities: Zero Trust Integration: Partner with infrastructure and identity teams to implement ZTNA solutions , helping to transition legacy access methods toward identity-aware, least-privileged connectivity. Collaborative Design: Contribute technical subject matter expertise to the design and evolution of network security architectures, including micro-segmentation and cloud-delivered security services. Security Operations: Execute the implementation and maintenance of network security controls, such as Next-Gen Firewalls (NGFW), IDS/IPS, and NAC, ensuring they align with broader University security standards. Assessments & Remediation: Participate in network security assessments and vulnerability scanning, working with relevant teams to develop and act on remediation plans. Continuous Improvement: Research and recommend enhancements to the network security posture, specifically focusing on how ZTNA and SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) can solve campus connectivity challenges. Documentation: Maintain high-quality technical documentation, including network security diagrams and configuration standards, to support team-wide transparency. Experience Required: Extensive proven experience in Cyber Security, with a significant focus on Network Security. Practical experience working with ZTNA or Zero Trust frameworks (e.g., SDP, Identity-Aware Proxies, or SSE). Strong understanding of network security protocols and their relationship with Modern Authentication (SAML, MFA, OIDC). Hands-on experience with security technologies from vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Zscaler, or Cisco. Solid grasp of routing, switching, and the security implications of hybrid-cloud environments. Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, consensus-driven technical environment.
