As an intern, you'll gain practical skills, develop professional capability, and build insight into how government operates. You don't need to be directly studying accounting or IT to apply. We welcome applicants from a broad range of academic backgrounds who are curious, motivated, and interested in public sector accountability and audit. Internship streams available: Financial Statements Audit Services Group (FSASG) As a Financial Statements Audit intern, you'll work as part of a small audit team, delivering financial statement audits across the Australian Public Sector. You'll support planning and fieldwork activities and contribute to high-quality, evidence-based audit outcomes. Key responsibilities include: Assisting with audit planning and the development of audit strategies Supporting the delivery of audits in line with approved methodologies Documenting and assessing accounting systems and internal controls Performing audit procedures and analysing findings Assisting in preparing clear and accurate audit documentation and reports Collaborating with team members and engaging with audited entities. Systems Assurance and Data Analytics (SADA) As an IT audit intern, you'll gain practical experience in IT audit and systems assurance. You'll help assess IT risks, controls, and governance frameworks that support the integrity of government systems. Key responsibilities: Supporting the planning of IT audit activities, including risk assessment and testing approaches Assisting with engagement with internal and external stakeholders during audit fieldwork Liaising with audited entities to understand business processes and gather evidence Assessing IT governance arrangements and key controls (such as access management, segregation of duties, and user permissions) Collating and analysing evidence to support audit conclusions Preparing clear and accurate work papers and documentation.
