Job description About the organisation AMPARO Advocacy is a small to medium-sized, not-for-profit community organisation which provides independent individual and systemic advocacy, community engagement and individual capacity building with and for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds with disability. AMPARO receives funding from both federal and State governments, including for its respected role as a peak and representative body in Queensland. AMPARO is seeking an experienced and values-driven CEO who demonstrates a strong commitment to social and economic inclusion for all people with disability; a sound understanding of social advocacy principles; and a commitment to implementing culturally responsive and trauma informed practice across all levels of the organisation. The organisation plays a critical role in advancing the human rights and interests of people from CALD backgrounds with disability in a complex policy, funding and service delivery environment, and a key role in advancing the social advocacy sector. The successful candidate will be required to obtain multiple clearances and working with vulnerable people clearances. About the role The CEO leads a team of highly skilled and committed advocates, culturally competent multicultural engagement workers and support staff. The CEO develops strategic goals, policies and priorities in partnership with the voluntary Management Committee. The CEO implements policies and ensures evidence-based practice that delivers positive outcomes for people from CALD backgrounds with disability. This role integrates strategic leadership with practical, hands‑on management to ensure AMPARO’s work remains relevant, impactful, and aligned with our Mission, Vision, and Objects. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 3-5 years of CEO or Senior Executive experience in a leadership role. About you You are a respected, culturally responsive and proven leader who can build high-performing teams committed to human rights and social justice. You have operated productively with boards or management committees and engaged with government representatives and agencies, community stakeholders, and service providers to promote the rights of all people with disability. You will bring strategic-thinking, understanding of government funding models, the NDIS, and not-for-profit compliance requirements, and excellent communication skills. You will be able to nurture and sustain an organisational culture that is open, welcoming and respectful of diversity and the full and equal participation of all people with disability. Mandatory Relevant degree in Social Work, Social Sciences/ or an equivalent discipline, supported by leadership experience within the community or not for profit sector.
