About the Role Reporting to the Chief Engineer Infrastructure and Recovery, the Manager Water and Wastewater provides both operational and strategic leadership of Council’s Water and Wastewater Business Unit. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of water supply, wastewater treatment and recycled water services across the region. This is a senior leadership role that requires strong technical capability combined with extensive people leadership experience. You will take ownership of the business unit providing direction to a skilled team while ensuring high standards of safety, regulatory compliance and service delivery. A key focus of the role will be leading and supporting major infrastructure initiatives, including involvement in a significant $70 million capital works program that will shape the future of water and wastewater services for the region. Responsibilities Lead and manage the Water and Wastewater Business Unit, providing strong operational and people leadership. Ensure safe, compliant and efficient delivery of water, wastewater and recycled water services. Lead strategic planning, asset management and long-term infrastructure initiatives. Oversee budgets, contracts, tender processes and operational performance. Support delivery of major capital works projects, including a $70 million water infrastructure program. Skills and Experience Required Degree in Civil (water and wastewater), Environmental, Process Engineering or similar, or extensive relevant industry experience. Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland or eligibility to obtain registration. Extensive experience in the operation and management of water and wastewater systems, ideally within a local government or complex infrastructure environment. Strong technical knowledge of drinking water, wastewater treatment and recycled water systems. Demonstrated success leading and developing teams in operational infrastructure environments. Proven ability to plan strategically while maintaining strong operational oversight. Experience managing capital projects, budgets, contracts and tender processes. Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements associated with water and wastewater services. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
