The Observing Operations Hubs are the Bureau of Meteorology's Technical Operations centres comprising of 8 Hubs, one in each capital city and Cairns. Staff based at the Observing Operations Hub travel far and wide and into remote areas, utilising 4WD's, planes, boats, and helicopters to maintain service delivery within the various instrumentation networks. This includes: Rain Radars Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) Upper-Air monitoring systems (sounding balloons) Sea Level Monitoring Stations Wave and Wave height buoys Satellite ground reception and space weather instruments Flood warning/rainfall monitoring systems Cooperative observers, volunteer rainfall stations Communications, telemetry, and instrumentation systems We are part of a national maintenance workforce and there is the opportunity to travel to other parts of Australia. We offer specialised, in-house competency-based training on all our equipment and will ensure you have the necessary tools and skills to undertake this work. Staff in our Hubs are mentored and supported by a Hub Manager and various Team leads The key duties of the position include The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Infrastructure Management: Manage hub and field facilities including backup power, air conditioning, testing & tagging, First Aid kits, CCTV monitoring, vehicle management, warehousing, key registers & cyberlocks, chemical management, plant/equipment compliance and consumables. Stakeholder Liaison and Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including staff from various Bureau programs, Contractors, Government agencies, Service Providers and project partners, always representing the Bureau in a professional manner in accordance with APS Values and Code of Conduct. Planning and Logistics: Support field technicians and scheduler with trip organisation and logistics Compliance: Comply with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and guidance in the course of your work. Maintenance & Operations: Undertake occasional site inspections and maintenance of field equipment with training provided. Supervision: Mentor, manage, supervise, and develop staff. Quality Management: Participate in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of products and services and the ongoing development, implementation, and continual improvement of the quality management system to achieve and maintain the ongoing certification of compliance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard. Travel & Incident Response: Occasional travel away from your home base is a part of this role. Occasional work and incident response support may require working outside of normal business hours including weekends, for which over-time and other allowances may be payable.
