ABOUT THE ROLE: The Coded Welder plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality structural and piping welding to support Spire Contracting’s construction and infrastructure projects. You will perform certified welds, maintain strict quality and safety standards, and contribute to efficient project delivery across diverse industrial environments. This role helps uphold our reputation for safety, excellence, and precision workmanship. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform coded welding on structural steel and piping using approved processes in full compliance with WPS and Australian Standards. Conduct pre‑start checks, identify hazards, and actively follow all workplace health and safety processes. Interpret technical drawings, project specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) to meet strict quality requirements. Inspect welds, support QA/QC documentation, and rectify non‑conforming work as required. Maintain welding equipment, tools, and a clean, safe work area while supporting team‑based project delivery. ABOUT YOU (SKILLS & EXPERIENCE): Mandatories: Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Fabrication Trade OR equivalent trade qualification Coded Welding Certification to AS/NZS 1554 or ASME IX White Card and valid Class C driver’s licence Minimum 3 years’ experience as a coded welder in construction, mining, or industrial environments Proficiency in MMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding specifications Ability to pass pre‑employment medical, drug/alcohol testing, and hold Australian working rights. Desirable: Experience with pressure welding, tested pipework, or shutdown/brownfield sites Exposure to NDT processes (UT, RT, MPI, PT) EWP, Dogging, Rigging, Working at Heights, Confined Space, or Gas Test Atmospheres certifications Evidence of prior welder qualification records or logbooks.
