This fast-paced, complex reform program will be delivered through the National Firearms Register Program (NFR Program), which is led by ACIC on behalf of all partners. We are seeking a Firearms Officer with a strong knowledge of both the Australian and international firearm industry and firearm identification, for the purpose developing and maintaining the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission's (ACIC) hosted firearm management systems; specifically, the National Firearm Register (NFR) and the National Firearm Identification Database (NFID). The role requires professional engagement with industry participants, both nationally and internationally, firearm collector groups, firearm dealers and licenced firearm owners. This engagement requires a demonstrated high level of management, communication and firearm research skills. The key duties of the position include Ensure the NFID is meeting regulatory and industry needs through accurate and timely production of firearm identification templates; Maintain current knowledge of firearm and ammunition technology, the Australian firearm industry and the firearm supply chain as relevant to Australia; The receipt and processing of firearm trace requests from domestic and international authorities, and; Provide expert advice relating to firearms and firearm management systems. Essential experience Demonstrated experience in the identification, including a strong knowledge of firearm parts and accessories; Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, and; Demonstrated experience in the safe handling of firearms. Desirable skills and/or qualifications Experience in the use of firearms management and registration systems. Desirable training Firearms safety training.
