Description Downer is seeking an experienced Heavy Commercial Vehicle & Mobile Plant Mechanic to join our Eastern Creek operations. This role offers a balance of workshop-based maintenance and field service work , supporting critical asphalt and mobile plant assets across NSW. You’ll work on a highly specialised fleet and play a key role in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and operational across our projects. About the Role This position is primarily day shift , with flexibility required for night works , occasional weekend breakdowns, and short-term travel when needed. The successful candidate will be hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities Service, maintain, and repair asphalt and mobile plant equipment, including: Asphalt pavers Tack coaters Profilers Skid steers Steel and multi-tyre rollers Trucks and trailers Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic , and electrical systems (12–24V) Perform fabrication and refurbishment works, including: Refurbishing sweeper brooms for skid steers Replacing cutting edges Repairing milling drums Attend breakdowns in the field as required (including rare weekend callouts) Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Downer standards Work collaboratively within a skilled, safety‑focused team Shifts, Travel & Overtime Day Shift (majority of work) Monday to Friday: 6:00am – 2:30pm Night Shift (as required) Sunday to Thursday: 7:00pm – 3:30am 50% night shift loading Overtime paid at 1.8x On-call weekends are very rare Ability to travel and stay away 2–3 nights across NSW when required Company vehicle may be provided for the right candidate (not guaranteed) About You Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or Mobile Plant (essential) Current C Class Driver Licence (essential) HR Licence (preferred) Forklift Licence (preferred) Strong experience with asphalt plant, mobile plant, trucks, or heavy equipment Sound hydraulic diagnostic capability Auto electrical experience (highly regarded) Fabrication and repair experience Comfortable working independently and within a team Flexible, reliable, and safety‑focused What We Offer Competitive hourly rates (open to discussing salary expectations) Overtime and night shift loadings Exposure to specialised asphalt and mobile plant equipment Ongoing training and career development Strong Zero Harm safety culture Inclusive and collaborative team environment Apply Now Apply with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role.
