Established in 1987, Steelguard has built a strong reputation manufacturing secure storage, custodial and high-security steel products for commercial, government and law enforcement sectors. The successful candidate will assist with mechanical design, production efficiency, quality assurance and engineering support across customised manufacturing projects. The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Design mechanical components and steel product systems for customised manufacturing projects. Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications and production documentation for fabrication teams. Review manufacturing layouts and recommend improvements for operational and production efficiency. Coordinate installation, commissioning and maintenance activities for mechanical equipment and systems. Analyse production schedules and workflow processes to optimise labour and equipment utilisation. Inspect fabricated steel products to ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards. Assist with material selection and determine suitable fabrication methods for engineering projects. Support workshop teams with technical advice regarding manufacturing and assembly requirements. Develop testing and quality control procedures for mechanical and fabricated steel products. Monitor machinery performance and recommend preventative maintenance improvements where required. Collaborate with management regarding project timelines, manufacturing priorities and resource planning. Ensure engineering activities comply with workplace safety regulations and company procedures. Prepare reports relating to production performance, equipment issues and engineering improvements. Assist in developing customised steel solutions to meet specific client and regulatory requirements. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role: Bachelor Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline is essential for this position. Minimum one year of relevant mechanical engineering experience within manufacturing, fabrication or industrial production environments is required. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication processes and sheetmetal manufacturing techniques is highly desirable. Ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications and manufacturing documentation accurately within production environments. Demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety standards, quality control procedures and engineering compliance requirements is expected. Effective communication skills and the ability to coordinate with workshop staff, suppliers and management teams are necessary. Experience analysing production processes and implementing efficiency improvements within engineering or manufacturing operations is highly regarded. Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks while maintaining accuracy, organisation and attention to project deadlines is important.
