Join a Warm, Purpose‑Driven Mental Health Organisation in a Period of Exciting Growth. Purpose driven organisation – South Brisbane location SCHADS Award Level 4.4 salary packaging flexible working arrangements Cohesive team culture - helping each other to help others Are you an experienced, detail‑driven Payroll Officer who thrives in environments built on empathy, collaboration and genuine human connection? Do you want your work to contribute to something bigger - supporting a team that quite literally changes and saves lives every day? If so, this may be the role that feels like home . In a period of significant organisational growth, our client - a warm, community‑centred mental health charity - seeks an experienced Payroll Officer who can offer both technical competence and a deeply human approach to their work. This organisation, currently expanding from just over fifty employees to more than one hundred due to a recent acquisition, prides itself on being collaborative, ego‑free and genuinely supportive. Staff wellbeing is not merely a stated value but a lived one; the leadership team places great emphasis on empathy, open communication and creating an environment where individuals feel respected, connected and able to thrive. As the Head of Finance puts it: “This is the best organisation I’ve ever worked for. We look after each other. And above all, we have purpose.” The Payroll Officer will play an essential role in ensuring a seamless fortnightly payroll cycle during a time of transition. The position requires the ability to process end‑to‑end payroll with accuracy and care, reviewing timesheets across multiple states, managing allowances, liaising with external ADP payroll services and addressing issues calmly and professionally. As the organisation supports individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges, it is vital that the successful candidate approaches interactions with sensitivity and patience, recognising that clear, kind communication is just as important as technical proficiency. Although the role offers two days of working from home, the postholder will remain closely connected to the finance team through regular collaboration on Teams, benefitting from ongoing support from both the Senior Accountant and the wider finance function. Applicants should bring at least two to three years’ payroll experience, ideally gained within a medium‑sized organisation. As this role operates within the SCHADS framework, a strong understanding of the SCHADS Award is essential and familiarity with systems such as Realtime (integrated with ADP) would be advantageous, though not essential. More important is a methodical approach, strong organisational skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues with confidence and clarity. The organisation is seeking not only a capable operator but also someone who fits their culture: a person who values collaboration, communicates openly and is willing to take ownership of challenges without isolating themselves from the team. This four‑day‑per‑week role offers a six‑month temporary contract with a strong likelihood of extension or conversion to a permanent position, reflecting the organisation’s intention to build a long‑term payroll function. With a flexible working model, a largely remote arrangement and a genuinely human‑centred ethos, this opportunity will appeal to candidates who wish to contribute to meaningful, community‑focused work while enjoying a supportive and balanced professional environment. For those seeking a role where their skills directly support an organisation making an extraordinary difference in people’s lives, this position offers both purpose and possibility.
