We are seeking an APS Level 6 Cloud Engineer to support the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of our Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment. In this role, you will help ensure our systems remain secure, reliable and scalable, including managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) access, monitoring cloud activity and applying best-practice standards. You will also contribute to cloud-modernisation initiatives, including infrastructure as code and automated deployment pipelines. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical judgement, experience working with AWS in an enterprise environment, and the ability to build effective relationships with internal teams and external service providers. The key duties of the position include Manage and support our AWS cloud systems, including core services such as computing, storage, databases, networking, monitoring and security tools. Help maintain key platforms and tools, including our data warehousing systems, CI/CD pipelines, container platforms (ECS/EKS) and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (CloudFormation/Terraform). Monitor costs and security, using AWS tools such as Trusted Advisor, Cost Explorer and AWS security services. Review and approve access permissions to ensure people only have the access they need (following least-privilege principles). Carry out regular audits to make sure access, accounts and system configurations meet Architecture and Cyber Security policies. Deliver planned cloud and infrastructure initiatives, ensuring they are secure, low-risk and delivered on time. Work closely with service delivery partners who support critical business systems. Set up and maintain monitoring tools to ensure our systems stay available, stable and high-performing, and make this information available to teams who need it. Maintain clear technical documentation for all systems and processes managed by the team. Ensure all work aligns with organisational Architecture and Cyber Security requirements, including standards, policies and roadmaps. Apply cloud and infrastructure best practices and uphold departmental standards in daily work. Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues, explaining complex ideas in ways everyone can understand.
