Executive Manager – Commodities, Trade & Carbon (CTC) Risk Do work that matters The Risk Management function at Commonwealth Bank provides strategic oversight and leadership across retail, corporate, and policy credit risk teams. Specifically, the role sits within Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) Risk Management, a divisional Risk team providing IB&M with specialist Risk services and advice. The Commodities, Trade and Carbon (CTC) Risk Team is a newly established team that focuses on the end-to-end risk management across CTC products. The Commodities, Trade and Carbon Risk team has a credit focus but works closely with Market Risk and other risk functions such as Operational Risk and Compliance to cover the end-to-end risks. You’ll be instrumental in shaping and executing credit risk frameworks, policies, and decisioning strategies that support sound risk outcomes across the credit lifecycle. With a focus on institutional commodity trading clients, physical inventory and CTC product oversight, this role is critical in ensuring exposures are well-managed and aligned with our risk appetite. This role is pivotal in guiding the development and implementation of credit risk strategies, monitoring portfolio exposures, and leading complex risk initiatives that support the Group’s financial wellbeing and sustainability goals. Your day could look like (but not limited to): Lead the execution of sound credit decisioning and exposure management strategies aligned with risk frameworks. Monitor portfolio-level credit risk exposures to ensure they remain within defined thresholds and limits. Develop and implement credit risk policies, standards, and tolerance limits in consultation with business leadership, particularly in regards to commodity physical ownership limits. Lead the Risk Management oversight and contribution to product governance with respect to Commodity, Trade Finance and Carbon products. Deliver strategic insights and practical recommendations to senior management and business partners. Lead complex credit risk projects and process redesign initiatives to enhance measurement and monitoring. Manage and develop high-performing teams, across Australia and Europe, fostering technical and organisational capability. Engage with stakeholders, clients, and governance forums to provide guidance, challenge, and thought leadership. Research and apply best practices in credit risk management across investments and related business activities. Additional requirements we’re looking for: Advanced experience in credit risk decisioning within institutional banking having held a sizeable decisioning delegation. Advanced understanding of markets products, market risk matters, systems, practices & controls. Exposure to and management of commodity trading companies. Experience in commodity or trade finance products including structure trade. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across senior internal and external audiences. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality insights under pressure. Skilled in quantitative techniques and data-driven risk analysis.
