Applications close: 8 March 2026 Building Surveyor Permanent full-time 35 hours a week VDO off every 19 days Flexible hybrid working arrangements - WFH opportunities Salary: $103,974.52 - $120,835.78 12% Superannuation per annum What you'll do As a Building Surveyor, you will report to the Coordinator Health and Building and actively contribute to the delivery of Council's statutory certification and regulatory functions. The role is responsible for ensuring building works are assessed, inspected and certified in accordance with applicable legislation, standards and Council policies. The position undertakes the following key business functions: Certification & Approvals - Undertake certification and regulatory functions, including the assessment and determination of Construction Certificate (CC) and Complying Development Certificate (CDC) applications, issuing Occupation Certificates and approvals under Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993 , for Class 1 and 10 buildings, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards. Statutory Inspections & Compliance - Conduct statutory inspections of building works, including critical stage inspections, to ensure compliance with approved plans, development consents, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 , applicable Regulations, the National Construction Code, and Council requirements, while providing a timely and responsive service to the development industry. Professional Advice & Guidance - Provide professional advice and technical guidance to residents, developers and internal Council staff regarding the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, statutory codes and Council policies, supporting consistent, lawful and risk-based decision-making. What you'll need to succeed (Essential Criteria) Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying (Degree or Graduate Diploma) or equivalent, meeting eligibility requirements for registration under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (NSW). Current registration as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (Class 1 and 10 buildings) with the NSW Building Commission. Demonstrated experience in building certification or building surveying within a Local Government or private practice environment. Sound knowledge of NSW development and building legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, associated Regulations, and the National Construction Code. Proven interpersonal and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with applicants, builders, consultants and internal stakeholders, and to prepare clear, accurate and defensible technical reports. Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume workload efficiently and professionally, with strong attention to detail and time management skills. Current Class C Driver Licence and General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
