The Opportunity As a Senior Governance Officer in the City of Perth, you will provide technical specialist providing authoritative, high-level governance advice across the organisation. The role focuses on strengthening governance frameworks, ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance, and supporting effective engagement with external oversight bodies, including appointed monitors. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the position provides strategic advice to executives, safeguards the City’s governance integrity, and drives continuous improvement in governance practices through expert analysis, assurance, and guidance. Reporting to the Council Governance & Policy Coordinator within the Governance and Strategy team, your key responsibilities will include: Providing high-level governance advice and assurance to executives and key stakeholders on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters; Coordinating and quality-assuring Council, committee and executive meetings, including agendas, reports, minutes and action tracking; Managing critical governance registers and records, ensuring accuracy, probity and compliance with legislative and procedural requirements; and Supporting governance assurance, audit follow-up and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen organisational governance maturity. About You To succeed in this role, you will possess: Proven experience coordinating engagement with external oversight and assurance bodies, managing sensitive information and ensuring accurate, compliant organisational responses; Highly developed written communication skills, with experience preparing complex governance documentation for executive, Council and external audiences; Demonstrated sound judgement, discretion and professionalism when managing confidential, sensitive and high-risk matters; and Strong ability to build relationships and influence outcomes across executives and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to continuous improvement of governance frameworks and practices.
