About ArborMeta At ArborMeta, our mission is to enhance the precision and impact of forest science through advanced quantification and analysis, driving forward initiatives and markets focused on climate and biodiversity. From a not-for-profit research background, we're committed to better understanding and valuing the world's forests through the development of technology that is fit for the challenges of the 21st century. Join us in our quest to contribute tangible solutions to the pressing environmental problems! About the Role The Life Scientist - Vegetation Structure & LiDAR Analysis is responsible for conducting systematic biological observations and analysis of forest ecosystems. The role utilizes high-precision LiDAR technology to analyse the structural composition, growth patterns, and physiological health of trees, contributing to the broader understanding of forest biology and plant communities. Responsibilities Conduct systematic research into forest ecosystems using terrestrial LiDAR to analyse the structural composition, growth dynamics, and biomass distribution at a high degree of precision. Study the botanical forms and spatial organization of vegetation by analysing high-resolution datasets of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) to determine canopy architecture, crown morphology, and structural complexity through high-precision measurements. Investigate how environmental variables, including climate change, disturbance, and resource availability, impact plant growth, regeneration, and overall ecosystem resilience using LiDAR dataset. Perform taxonomic identification of plant species by integrating LiDAR-derived data with field observations and ecological reference data, developing standardized identification guides for scientific use. Co-align and validate multi-temporal datasets to ensure the scientific accuracy of long-term studies regarding vegetation health and biomass accumulation. Perform scientific audits of processing pipelines to ensure data integrity and adherence to biological plant research standards. Prepare technical reports and internal protocols detailing analytical findings, methodology improvements, and data quality assessments. Train technical staff, ensuring all field collection and data analysis maintain rigorous scientific standards and methodological consistency. Experience Relevant degree in Biology Demonstrated experience conducting ecological or biological research within forest or vegetation-dominated ecosystems. Hands-on experience working with terrestrial LiDAR (TLS) or closely related remote sensing technologies for vegetation or structural analysis. Proven ability to analyse high-resolution spatial datasets to assess vegetation structure, canopy architecture, biomass, or growth dynamics. Experience integrating field-based botanical observations with digital or remote sensing datasets. Strong understanding of plant biology, forest ecology, and vegetation dynamics, including responses to environmental drivers. Experience managing, validating, and co-aligning multi-temporal datasets to support longitudinal ecological studies. Demonstrated ability to produce clear technical reports, scientific documentation, and analytical protocols. Experience working within structured research or scientific quality assurance frameworks, ensuring data integrity and methodological consistency. * Candidates must be based in the local area Job Type: Full-time Work Location: In person
