The Opportunity The Principal Project Engineer (Transmission Lines) provides expert technical leadership and engineering oversight for the planning, design, and delivery of VicGrid's high-voltage transmission line projects. Working within an active client model, the role coordinates internal engineering teams, external consultants, and delivery partners to ensure technical integrity, safety, and constructability across the project lifecycle. What you will deliver In this role you will lead the development, maintenance, and change control of VicGrid's transmission line functional specifications and technical standards, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, industry best practice, and network operator expectations. You will provide technical leadership and assurance over the planning, design, and delivery of high-voltage transmission lines (typically 132 kV and above), coordinating closely with internal engineering teams, delivery partners, and external consultants. You will perform, or oversee the performance of, independent design reviews and quality assurance of transmission line designs prepared by AusNet and AusNet-engaged engineering consultants, ensuring technical compliance, constructability, and safety. You will contribute to the planning, scoping, procurement, management, and review of technical consultancy contracts, ensuring clear briefs, appropriate governance, and value-for-money outcomes. What you will bring Demonstrated experience in the delivery of large electricity transmission and/or distribution infrastructure projects. Victorian experience will be highly regarded. Demonstrated experience assessing and advising on complex issues across criteria that include cost/benefit and value for money. * Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary work packages across staff/consultants/contractors to achieve timely delivery of outcomes.
