Description Join Downer Group ’s Business Services Centre (BSC) as a Payroll Officer , where you’ll play a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services to a large and diverse workforce across Australia and New Zealand. Based in North Ryde (NSW) or St Kilda Road (VIC), this role sits within a high-performing payroll team supporting over 50,000 employees across multiple awards and enterprise agreements. You’ll work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, collaborating closely with payroll colleagues, HR, and business stakeholders to resolve payroll queries and continuously improve service delivery. Key Responsibilities Deliver payroll processing with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance showing proven knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, and internal policies Process payroll activities including wages and salaries, leave management, superannuation, tax, overpayment recovery and general ledger costing Complete payroll reconciliations for main and off-cycle pays, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly Respond to and resolve payroll enquiries through the Customer Support System, phone, and email, applying sound problem-solving and customer service principles Support month-end activities, reporting, and payroll analysis as required Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll information at all times Work collaboratively within the payroll team to meet service level agreements (SLAs), KPIs, and payroll deadlines Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and payroll-related projects Actively support Downer’s Zero Harm culture and comply with all health, safety, and environmental requirements What You Will Bring 2 years’ experience in a payroll processing role, ideally in a high-volume environment Demonstrated experience delivering excellent customer service in a complex or fast-paced setting Exposure to multiple awards or enterprise agreements and payrolls of 1,000 employees (highly regarded) Experience with payroll systems such as SAP, Oracle (V12 or Express HR), PayGlobal, Attaché, or Meridian Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and best-practice processes High attention to detail with the ability to reconcile, analyse, and resolve payroll discrepancies Well-developed communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees, HR, and business stakeholders Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet competing deadlines A collaborative mindset, willingness to support others, and openness to change and continuous improvement Solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel , Outlook, and Word Benefits Of Working with Downer Work with an ASX listed company, working with market leaders.
