Description About the role We are seeking an experienced Manager, Data Platforms to lead the design, delivery, and ongoing operation of the organisation’s enterprise data platform including data lake, data warehouse, and analytics environments . Reporting to the Director of Technology and Data Services, this role is responsible for ensuring data platforms are secure, reliable, scalable, and fit for purpose, enabling trusted insights and informed decision-making across the organisation. You will provide technical leadership and operational oversight to manage a Microsoft-based data ecosystem with Microsoft Fabric at its core. Key Responsibilities: Lead the technical strategy, roadmap, and evolution of the enterprise data platform, including Microsoft Fabric, data lake, and data warehouse capabilities, aligned to organisational and enterprise architecture standards. Own the end-to-end design and engineering oversight of data platform services, including data ingestion, transformation, modelling, semantic layers, and analytics, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and scalable. Accountable for the availability, performance, and reliability of data platforms, balancing project delivery with business-as-usual operations, lifecycle management, and continuous optimisation. Enable trusted reporting and analytics by governing Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse models, semantic datasets, and Gold-layer reporting assets, supporting consistent definitions and governed self-service analytics. Ensure data platforms meet privacy, security, and regulatory obligations, embedding governance controls, access management, auditability, and responsible data use practices. Lead data platform delivery across enterprise programs and initiatives, acting as the primary escalation point and translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Build and lead a high-performing data platform team and manage vendor and partner relationships to deliver sustainable capability uplift and value for money. Skills And Experiences About you You are an experienced data platform leader with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative, outcomes-focused approach. You bring a blend of hands-on expertise and strategic thinking, with the ability to design, operate, and evolve enterprise data platforms that support trusted decision-making. You will bring: A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Strong experience designing and managing data integration and pipeline solutions, including ETL/ELT processes, API integrations, and data movement across complex environments. Proven capability working across cloud and hybrid data ecosystems, including Azure and on-premises platforms, to deliver secure and scalable solutions. Deep technical expertise across the Microsoft data stack, including Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Power BI (Power Query and DAX), and data modelling approaches. Experience with data governance and management practices, including tools such as Microsoft Purview, master data management, metadata, and data quality controls. Strong documentation and technical writing skills, with experience producing standards, training materials, and operational documentation. An effective communicator, able to build trusted relationships and clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
