McArthur is seeking an experienced EL2 Forensic Accountant, to support our federal Government clients' Corporate Services function. Our client provides services that support both veterans and their surrounding families. Commencing in February, this position offers full-time hours and is a casual contract for a period of 12 months. To be eligible for this role, you must have Australian Citizenship, and the ability to obtain, and maintain a baseline security clearance. Successful candidates performing this role, may also be required to obtain an ACIC suitability assessment. Key Responsibilities: Conduct forensic examinations of financial records to identify fraud, misconduct, misappropriation of funds, or financial irregularities Analyse complex financial data, transactions, and accounting systems to trace assets, reconstruct events, and quantify financial losses Prepare clear, defensible forensic reports suitable for legal proceedings, regulatory action, or internal governance purposes Provide expert advice and support to legal teams, investigators, regulators, and senior executives Assist with litigation support, including discovery, document review, damages calculations, and evidentiary analysis Give expert witness testimony in courts, tribunals, or inquiries, where required Identify weaknesses in financial controls and governance frameworks and recommend remediation strategies Support fraud risk assessments, integrity reviews, and compliance investigations Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, legal counsel, internal audit, and risk teams Maintain evidentiary standards, chain of custody, and documentation in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements Selection Criteria: Advanced financial analysis and accounting expertise Strong understanding of auditing standards, financial reporting frameworks, and internal controls Ability to detect fraud schemes, financial manipulation, and concealment techniques Proficiency in data analytics tools, spreadsheets, and forensic accounting software Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and evidentiary standards High-level investigative capability with attention to detail Ability to interpret incomplete, ambiguous, or deliberately obscured financial information Critical thinking and sound professional judgement Strong risk assessment and root-cause analysis skills Strong written communication skills for formal briefs, expert reports, and regulatory submissions Ability to present findings in a logical, structured, and impartial manner Due to an immediate need, candidates will be assessed on application, and only those successful in progressing further will be contacted.
