Location: Canberra (51 Allara St), hybrid work possible Contract: 12 months 2 x 12-month extensions Security Clearance: NV1 We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Unified Communications Engineer to join the Telecommunications and Data Centre Support Section within the Infrastructure and Operational Support Branch. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Unified Communications (UC) systems and solutions to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient communication services across DFAT’s global network. Key Responsibilities: Identify business needs and document functional and technical requirements for UC hardware, processes, workflows, and operating systems. Serve as the primary technical contact for UC design and implementation, ensuring alignment with security and architectural standards. Develop UC roadmaps in collaboration with architecture and cybersecurity teams. Support solution design and implementation for telephony, collaboration platforms, messaging, PBX systems, and voice/video conferencing. Maintain UC systems and services, including desktop and softphones, mobile devices, and conferencing environments. Create and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for UC administration and usage. Research emerging technologies to inform procurement and development efforts. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural consistency and security compliance. Provide technical support for UC system upgrades and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues. Contribute to operational strategies and best practices to enhance system performance and reliability. Requirements Essential Criteria Extensive UC Experience: Minimum of 10 years designing, deploying, and managing Unified Communications systems and solutions. Stakeholder Engagement: Strong stakeholder management and client service skills, with the ability to build effective relationships. Technical Documentation: Ability to articulate technical details through comprehensive design and implementation plans. Problem-Solving: Highly developed diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex UC environments. Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
