Job Description Position Title: EL1 Senior Unified Communications Engineer Employment Type: Labour hire - Approx. 12 months with potential to extend Location: Canberra, ACT Hourly Pay Rate: Negotiable dependent on experience Security Clearance / Requirements: Must hold NV1 clearance at time of application Working Arrangements: Onsite with flexibility subject to operational requirements ABOUT THE ROLE A Federal Government department is seeking an experienced Senior Unified Communications Engineer to join its Telecommunications and Data Centre Support team within a large ICT infrastructure environment. You will work as part of a mixed APS and contractor team delivering and supporting enterprise-grade telecommunications, voice, video, and collaboration platforms across a complex and highly secure environment. The role supports both operational services and project delivery, contributing to the design, implementation, and ongoing optimisation of Unified Communications (UC) capabilities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Identify and document business, functional, and technical requirements for UC hardware, systems, workflows, and operating environments Act as the subject matter expert for the design and implementation of Unified Communications solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency Develop and maintain UC roadmaps in collaboration with architecture, design, and cybersecurity stakeholders Support the design and deployment of communication, collaboration, and networking systems Maintain and support UC platforms including telephony, collaboration tools, messaging systems, softphones, mobile devices, PBX, and voice/video conferencing environments Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training materials for system administration and end-user use Research emerging technologies, standards, and products to inform procurement and continuous improvement Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural consistency and alignment across projects Provide technical support for UC system upgrades, troubleshooting complex infrastructure and software issues Contribute to operational strategies, best practices, and service improvements to enhance performance and reliability SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential: Minimum 10 years’ experience designing, deploying, and managing Unified Communications systems Strong stakeholder engagement and client service capabilities Demonstrated ability to produce detailed technical designs and implementation documentation Highly developed diagnostic and problem-solving skills Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills Desirable: Broad understanding of whole-of-government ICT direction and emerging technologies Hands-on experience with day-to-day UC operations including voice, video, and VoIP environments Experience contributing to ICT security accreditation processes Strong understanding of ASD Essential Eight Familiarity with current and emerging networking and collaboration technologies ELIGIBILITY Australian citizenship is required Must hold minimum NV1 clearance at time of application Candidates must provide a one-page written pitch (up to 5,000 characters) addressing all selection criteria Apply now or contact Simmone Priest on 6260 8888 at SOS Recruitment for a confidential discussion.
