Locations in the Torres Strait; Mua Island (Kubin) Mabuyag Island TSRA Rangers play a vital role in the environmental and cultural stewardship across the Torres Strait. Rangers combine traditional knowledge and western science to care of land, sea and culture in line with community and traditional owners. The key duties of the position include Rangers work throughout their Islands land and sea country and are required to carry out strenuous outdoor activities on a regular basis. These activities include but are not limited to; • Conduct physical work outdoors within the cultural and natural resource management on the island of your location and other communities with the Torres Straits. This including cultural site maintenance, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) recording, cultural awareness activities, management of introduced plants and animals, threatened species management, land and sea patrols. • Consult, plan and seek advice from Traditional Owners and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporates (RNTBCs) regarding work plan activities. • Computer literate to conduct administrational duties such as interpreting work plans, recording timesheet, leave application, and assist with development planning. • Rangers are also required to utilise computer or online based applications to collect and collate data and provide reports of work carried out on country. • Demonstrate capabilities to conduct maintenance on assets, equipment, and facilities. • Contribute to the Ranger team, work within a team • Invasive flora and fauna management • Undertake tasks as per directed by the Ranger Project Management. This work is carried out on both inhabited and uninhabited islands and sea county throughout the Torres Strait Region.
