The GEMS program is largely centred on regulating products to a minimum standard that enables market controls to be established. Through compliance and enforcement activity, the program also monitors regulated entities' compliance with obligations under the GEMS Act. The Branch works closely with the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3) which includes Australian state and territory governments and New Zealand, to ensure that appliance and equipment energy efficiency measures continue to benefit consumers and support energy performance objectives. The GEMS Branch includes strategy and policy functions for equipment energy minimum standards, contributes to broader energy performance policy and program design, and implements a significant regulatory function to support the Statutory Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Regulator.
