The Company Our client is a composite material manufacturer that specialises in converting conventional materials such as steel, wood, and aluminium into advanced composite materials. The Role Our client is seeking a driven Reinforcement Estimator to join the team in Australia. As a Reinforcement Estimator, you will be responsible for interpreting project drawings and specifications, producing accurate reinforcement take-offs (quantities and schedules), and working closely with the sales team to convert those take-offs into competitive, commercially viable quotes — particularly for GFRP / composite rebar products. You play a critical role bridging engineering / design, manufacturing (or procurement), and sales to ensure projects are correctly scoped, priced, and profitable. Key Responsibilities Review architectural, structural, and civil drawings to identify all reinforcement requirements (bars, meshes, spacers, chairs, accessories, etc.). Perform take-offs: calculate quantities and produce a full reinforcement schedule (bar list, mesh schedule, quantities, weights, cover requirements, lap/splice lengths, etc.). Translate take-offs into cost estimates/quotes: liaise with sales team, apply agreed unit rates, factor in post-processing (cutting, bending), handling, wastage, transport, and margins. Incorporate material-specific requirements: for GFRP rebar — consider material-specific handling, use of supports, cover, bending radii or splice details, noting differences vs standard steel rebar. Maintain accurate records and documentation of assumptions, clarifications, and quote basis (versions of drawings, markups, tolerance allowances, wastage factors). Liaise with customers, project managers, and internal stakeholders to clarify scope, respond to RFIs, and adjust estimates/quotes where project drawings or specifications change. Collaborate with procurement / manufacturing (if in-house), to check availability, lead times and special requirements for composite rebar (cutting, bending, storage, transport). Assist in continuous improvement of estimating templates, take-off tools, and process documentation. Provide support with admin tasks as needed (preparing quote documents, follow-up, version control, archiving). The candidate The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in construction estimating. You should have: Proven experience or background in civil engineering or construction estimating, ideally in reinforcement / rebar. Ability to interpret structural and civil drawings (bars, slabs, beams, columns, mesh, reinforcement details). Strong skills in take-offs and quantity scheduling (bar schedules, mesh lists, reinforcement summaries). Strong knowledge of reinforcement materials; familiarity with GFRP rebar or composite reinforcement is a strong advantage. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills: comfortable with formulas, lookups, tables, data organisation, and exporting schedule data for quoting. Good commercial understanding: unit rate application, wastage allowance, margins, cost build-up, and the ability to liaise with sales team to deliver a final quote. Good communication and collaboration skills — able to work between engineering, sales, and manufacturing/procurement. Strong attention to detail, methodical working style, and capacity to produce error-free documentation. Flexible and willing to learn — particularly on composite materials (GFRP) and evolving project requirements. Self-motivated and organised — able to work independently and manage multiple quotes and take-offs concurrently. Personal Characteristics Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative mindset to innovate new solutions Drive and energy with an appetite to continuously improve Openminded Willingness to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and our partners Leadership experience a bonus Leading by example and conducting work in a fair and professional manner Desirable / Bonus Attributes Previous experience working with composite rebar (GFRP) or non-standard reinforcement materials. Familiarity with take-off / estimating software (in addition to Excel). Understanding of relevant standards / codes for reinforcement (concrete codes, rebar specs, shear / bending / cover / splice rules). Some understanding of project scheduling / sequencing (so reinforcing installation is aligned with concrete pour planning). Reporting & Relationships Reports to: Head of Growth Opportunities / Technical Manager (depending on company structure) Works closely with: Sales team, Engineers, Procurement / Manufacturing (if applicable), Site / Construction teams (if internal), Customers (for quote clarification) Outputs / Deliverables Accurate reinforcement quantity take-offs and schedules per project plan sets A timely quote/estimate that converts take-offs into costed proposals Documentation of assumptions, versions, wastage, notes for manufacturing/fabrication Communication with sales / procurement / manufacturing / clients as needed Continuous improvement feedback to refine estimating processes/templates What our client offers Our client offers a competitive compensation package, and a stimulating work environment that fosters innovation and professional growth. Joining the team provides an opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects that have a lasting impact on the engineering landscape around the world. If you are an experienced Estimator looking to make a significant contribution to the design and engineering industries, we encourage you to apply. Take the next step in your career and become a vital part of this innovative team. Apply today by submitting your resume, portfolio, and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and accomplishments. Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
