Financial Controller – Lead the finance function in a growing construction group A leading residential construction group with a strong project pipeline is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and drive operational excellence across the business. This is a pivotal role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety, and wants to be a key decision-maker in a growing organisation. Prior experience in property, building, construction or similar industries is essential. Responsibilities: Day to day management of the accounts department and associated functions including mentoring and leadership of accounts team members. Overseeing the payroll function to ensure compliance with all relevant awards. Monitoring internal controls for compliance and raising issues in a timely manner. Treasury functions including management of business risk, cash flow management and planning. Prepare budgets and rolling forecasts. Oversee project budgets, ensuring accountability to the projects team. Reviewing project contracts, progress claims, retentions and bank guarantees. Preparation of accurate, timely, monthly management reports, financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations, working towards 7-day month end turnaround and year-end consolidated statutory reporting. Attending to all compliance matters for the group, including Income Tax, FBT, GST, Workers Compensation and Payroll Tax. Administration of accounting and project management software, ensuring data integrity and optimising the reporting framework. Management and administration of Group Insurance policies. Compliance with financial and regulatory requirements for state building licences. Maintenance and improvement of internal controls for all group businesses. Continual focus on cost reduction and growth of the bottom line across the group. Maintaining and improving the established strong relationships with financiers, external accountants and tax advisers. Strategic corporate structuring to maximize tax benefits and minimize operational costs. Annual taxation planning in conjunction with company accountant. Compliance with finance facility covenants. Assistance with acquisitions, documenting transactions and strategic direction of the business. Monitoring build costs and margins in conjunction with the management team. Actively monitoring fixed overheads to minimize cost. Tracking FY revenue for QBCC compliance. Management of supplier credit applications. Preparation of documentation for NSW Warranty Insurance compliance and periodic reviews. Daily monitoring of cash flow in conjunction with Accounts Manager. Weekly and monthly forecasting and monitoring of progress claims. Weekly and monthly review and approval of accounts payable in conjunction with the Accounts Manager.
