The opportunity: As our PO4 Senior Research Agronomist (On-farm Breeding Research), you will:- Coordinate and provide leadership to the team of researchers and breeding technical officers in Warwick, Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Redland Bay and Emerald who contribute research outcomes to statewide pulse breeding programs.- Provide agronomic management of pulse breeding trials.- Co-design, co-deliver, execute and manage on-farm breeding yield trials, disease nurseries and pure varietal seed production.- Effectively collect, collate, evaluate and curate all breeding datasets and maintain breeding data management systems using appropriate computer and scientific technology.- Initiate, conduct, manage and report the scientific outcomes of rigorous field-based research using experimental and on-farm research methods.- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with landholders, external trial providers and numerous DPI facility managers to achieve project outcomes.- Support and contribute to pulse research project milestones that foster a Departmental culture of team achievement and ethical conduct.- Deliver budgets and project management outcomes in an effective and safe manner.- Undertake supervision and direction of technical staff. Technical Requirements of the role: - Demonstrated ability to initiate, conduct, manage and report the scientific outcomes of rigorous field-based research using experimental and on-farm research methods.- Have in-depth agronomic knowledge of Queensland pulse farming systems and the factors that drive profitability, productivity and sustainability.- Project management skills with demonstrated ability to develop, manage, evaluate and report on the impacts of a strategic research portfolio in a complex organizational environment with multiple stakeholders.- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multi-disciplinary RDE team, work independently when required and supervise other project staff.- Experience in management of big data.- Skills in being able to operate farm machinery would be advantageous. There are some qualifications and licences that we see as essential. You must possess a:- A Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural Science, Applied Science or Rural Science in a field relevant to the position from a recognised tertiary institution.
