About the role We are seeking a Media and Communications Senior Advisor (Qld) to lead day-to-day media relations, community partnerships, events, and communications activities across Queensland. Sitting within Transurban’s External Affairs function, this role spans both the Queensland Public Affairs and Communities team and the National Media team, ensuring consistency and efficiency across both. You’ll work closely with media contacts, community partners, event organisers, and key stakeholders to protect and enhance Transurban’s reputation, while finding innovative ways to share positive stories. Day-to-day, you will: Provide strategic advice on proactive and reactive media management, including reputational risk mitigation Build and maintain strong relationships with media, community and event p a rtners , and senior business leaders Develop communications strategies, calendars, and reporting frameworks to support business objectives Respond to media enquiries and participate in the 24/7 media roster Manage Transurban’s portfolio of community partnerships, including sponsorship negotiations, activation plans, and social value reporting Coordinate signature on-road events such as Bridge to Brisbane and Tour de Brisbane, ensuring delivery of sponsorship benefits and stakeholder engagement Implement localised communications strategies for campaigns related to road safety, customer value, and community legacy . Work as part of a broader team that focuses on media markets across Australia , with opportunities to contribute to projects and issues outside of Queensland This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including: Experience: Minimum 5–7 years in media relations, corporate communications, or public relations Strategic capability: Ability to identify emerging issues and reputational risks, and provide expert advice to senior personnel Stakeholder engagement: Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders Project management: Excellent analytical and organisational skills to ensure community considerations are embedded in decision-making Influence: Strong negotiating and influencing skills, able to gain trust and motivate others Resilience: Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and remain composed in fast-paced environments Independence and team work : Initiative to work autonomously while also contributing to the success of the broader media team by collaborating effectively across functions , markets and issues. Communication: Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible terms Digital expertise : Demonstrated ability to deliver communications strategies across a broad range of channels, including digital platforms Attention to detail: High-level administrative skills and precision in managing communications programs.
