The Alligator Rivers Region Technical Committee (ARRTC), established under the Environment Protection (Alligator Rivers Region) Act 1978, advises the Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Water on the quality and appropriateness of the scientific research undertaken by the Supervising Scientist and mining companies to protect and restore the environment in the Alligator Rivers Region from the impacts of uranium mining. The key duties of the position include The Supervising Scientist is seeking applications for an independent scientific member with expertise in radiation protection for a 3-year term on ARRTC commencing in May 2026. The role requires travel to attend two meetings per year in either Darwin or Jabiru NT, usually held over 1-week. From time to time there may also be additional out of session meetings. Appointments to ARRTC are made by the Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Water. Members will receive a sitting fee, currently $476. per day, as set by the Remuneration Tribunal for part-time office holders. All travel and accommodation costs required for committee business will be covered.
