Benefits: Be part of the Western Harbour tunnel Project until March 2026 Competitive hourly rate lots of overtime work Site allowance - $5 per hour Travel allowance - $35 per day Paid 8 hours welding test Paid onsite induction (North Sydney) prior to start Free onsite parking (Rozelle) Job Details Project Duration: November 2025 – March 2026 Location: Western Harbour Tunnel, Rozelle, Sydney Shifts: 12-hour shifts (Day & Night) - 6am – 6pm / 6pm – 6am Roster: 6 days on, 2 days off Christmas Shutdown: 25 Dec 2025 – 1 Jan 2026 Crew Size: Approx. 18 welders Uniforms: Company shirts provided before site commencement Testing: conducted Tue - Thu from 6am, visual and UT testing applied Payment: Successful welders paid for test and induction hours upon project commencement Day shift: Normal time - $52/hr (7.6hrs) Time and half - $78/hr (3hrs) Double time $104/hr (1.4hrs) Night shift: Normal time - $67.60/hr (7.6hrs) Time and half - $78/hr (3hrs) Double time $104/hr (1.4hrs) About the Role: Our client has secured the welding contract for the Western Harbour Tunnel TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) project located near Rozelle, Sydney. We are seeking skilled and safety-focused Flux Core Welders to join our team working underground on this major infrastructure project. The project will commence on 17 November 2025 and run through to March 2026 , with operations continuing after the Christmas shutdown (25 Dec – 1 Jan). This role offers consistent, long-term work with excellent conditions and the opportunity to contribute to one of Sydney’s most significant tunnelling projects. Key Responsibilities Perform high-quality MIG root runs and flux core fill/cap welding on 25mm thick mild steel plates. Carry out welding across multiple positions — horizontal down hand, vertical up, overhead butt and fillet welds . Adhere strictly to site safety standards and use Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) at all times while underground. Follow company welding procedures and ensure weld quality meets visual and UT (Ultrasonic Testing) standards. Participate in welder qualification testing, pre-start checks and toolbox talks. Work collaboratively with a team of welders on day or night shift , contributing to production targets. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of work areas and equipment. Support company’s culture of safety, teamwork and professionalism. Requirements Proven Flux Core Welding experience - essential to pass the required weld tests. Trade qualification (Cert III in Engineering – Fabrication) preferred but not essential . Ability to complete and pass all four weld tests : 3 x Butt Welds (horizontal down hand, vertical up, overhead), 1 x Fillet Weld (overhead) Willingness to work underground under Sydney Harbour in controlled environments. Commitment to wear PAPR respirators at all times during welding work. Physically fit to undertake 12-hour shifts on a 6 days on / 2 days off roster (day or night shift). Availability for testing (Mon, Wed or Thurs 6am starts) and onboarding (costs covered by company). Reliable, punctual and able to follow strict safety and quality procedures.
