About the role The Eating Disorder Research Program at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is at the forefront of research exploring how the brain controls appetite, energy balance, and eating behaviours. Our work drives transformative advances in understanding and treating metabolic conditions such as obesity, as well as eating disorders including anorexia nervosa. As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will have the opportunity to lead cutting-edge research projects, shape the strategic direction of the program, secure funding, mentor emerging scientists, and translate innovative discoveries into real-world clinical impact. You Will: Design, implement, and analyse experiments using advanced technologies and animal models, generating high-quality data for publication and translation into clinical insights. Actively participate in leadership meetings, support achievement of research and funding goals, and help maintain a culture of excellence and collaboration. Integrate emerging technologies, novel methodologies, and innovative approaches to advance understanding and treatment of metabolic disorders and eating disorders. Develop grant applications, ethics submissions, study protocols, and comprehensive project reports to support program sustainability. Guide graduate students and junior investigators, fostering professional development and ensuring high-quality research outputs. Maintain laboratory safety, equipment, and documentation; comply with regulatory and institutional standards; and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. About you You hold a PhD in biomedical or life sciences and have a proven track record in designing and delivering complex research projects. You demonstrate personal integrity and a strong commitment to the Philosophy, Mission, and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries. You bring high-level conceptual, analytical, and innovative skills to develop projects and solve complex scientific challenges. You work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, while also independently managing your own work and guiding junior researchers. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement, grant writing, and preparing research publications.
