Salary commencing at $82,635.66 per annum, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience. Band 5. The Opportunity Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Strategic Transport Officer to join our Traffic and Transport Unit. In this role, you will support the Strategic Transport Planner in delivering sustainable transport and road safety projects across the municipality. You will provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders, assist with the planning and implementation of transport initiatives aligned with Council’s MV2040 strategy, and contribute to innovative programs that enhance walking, cycling, public transport, and road safety outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assist in the implementation and coordination of sustainable transport and road safety projects identified in Council strategies and plans. Investigate transport and road safety requests and provide effective, safe, and sustainable solutions. Support behavioural change programs and monitor their effectiveness in promoting sustainable transport. Provide expert advice to internal departments and external stakeholders on transport planning, development proposals, and road safety issues. Prepare reports, project briefs, and management documentation to guide transport planning initiatives. Conduct community and stakeholder consultations, ensuring engagement and collaboration in line with Council objectives. Assist in the development, monitoring, and review of transport-related policies, strategies, and programs. Manage contractors, consultants, and internal resources to ensure projects are delivered within budget and timelines. Analyse transport data, undertake surveys, and assess the impact of developments on transport networks. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Urban/Town Planning, or a related discipline that confers eligibility for membership to the Institute of Engineers (Australia). You will have practical experience in traffic and transport planning, project management, and the use of tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, and MS Office applications. You will demonstrate strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop sustainable transport and road safety solutions. Excellent communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to negotiate, influence, and gain cooperation from internal teams, external stakeholders, and the community. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is required, and experience in providing high-quality customer service in a local government or community-focused environment is highly desirable.
