Job Description Position Title: APS6/EL1 Business Analyst Employment Type: Approximate 6-month contract with potential to extend Location: Canberra, ACT Hourly Rate: APS6: $61.18 - $69.46 per hour 12% superannuation EL1: $80.04 - $86.09 per hour 12% superannuation Security Clearance/Requirements: Must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline security clearance to be considered ABOUT THE ROLE An exciting opportunity exists for experienced Business Analysts to support a major Commonwealth regulatory program review. Working within a dynamic team, you’ll analyse existing business and regulatory processes to identify efficiencies, reduce administrative burden, and develop options for a streamlined, risk-based regulatory model. This role will suit professionals with strong analytical, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement skills who are motivated to contribute to improved regulatory outcomes and public sector service delivery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Analyse current operating models to identify duplication, risks, and opportunities for process improvement. Review and map regulatory workflows, including compliance and assurance processes. Provide evidence-based advice and develop recommendations for a leaner, more efficient regulatory model. Balance the need for administrative efficiency with maintaining or improving compliance and welfare outcomes. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop practical process redesign options. Support documentation, reporting, and communication of findings to senior management. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Demonstrated experience as a Business Analyst within government, regulatory, or compliance environments. Strong capability in business process analysis, process redesign, and risk assessment. Proven experience in developing recommendations or options papers for operational improvement. Ability to interpret and apply legislative or regulatory frameworks. Excellent analytical, written communication, and stakeholder management skills. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) desirable. Understanding of agricultural, export, or biosecurity processes will be highly regarded.
