Why is this role for you? You’re a contracts administrator who has a few projects under your belt in the $50million range. You enjoy the role but are sick and tired of subbies hassling you, you don’t like being the brunt of their frustrations. It’s only got worse during covid as materials, costs and wages has increased. It’s time for a change, a fresh start in the new year and away from the cut throat world of head contracting working for a pain in the arse client. You’ve heard that working with a builder/developer is more enjoyable. And you’d be right. The subbies are better as they are being paid on time and not being screwed for every $. You have margins and targets of course, but they are realistic. It’s about doing the job right. The owner isn’t greedy, his focus is on delivering a quality, luxury project with no defects that he can sell or lease with minimal fuss. Paying more for better subbies is encouraged. The idea of a new challenge excites you but you don’t want to be overworked and burnt out. This won’t happen here. You’ll have time for an evening surf or a beer with your mates. Initially, you’ll start on a brand new project that is going through demo now. With a $80million build cost, it is mixed use with 80 luxury resi apartments, 3 levels of basement parking and a new Coles store. Salary is in the $170-$220k package range and if you want to start in Jan after the Christmas break that’s not a problem. And what about the company? Been operating for 10 years and have delivered numerous luxury developments in the Shire Management has worked for Lend Lease, Laings, Baulderstone etc so they know how to build safely and don’t cut corners Flat management structure, meaning you’ll deal directly with the decision makers Their pipeline of work is in the 100’s of millions, meaning you’ll be secure for years to come Solid and stable team of 20 staff who work well together About you You’ve been a CA for at least 5 years and you’ve done a few new build projects from start to finish. You can happily run your own show and don’t need your hand holding. You can see what needs doing and will just get on with it. Working in a smaller close-knit team is ideal. You like to get on with your work colleagues and will muck in when needed. Getting better and learning from others makes you tick. You’ll be surrounded by professionals who have worked for the big builders and know how to work out problems. You can bounce your ideas past them at any time. You’ll enjoy working here as like them, you appreciate that there is a life away from the workplace.
