The Role Flinders Island rises from Bass Strait and has a population of just under 1,000 people. The rugged west coast features white sandy beaches bordered by granite headlands. At the southern end, the Strzelecki Peaks, the island's highest mountains, are part of Strzelecki National Park. To the east, the landscape transitions into lagoons and wetlands. Our client is a young farm owner, manager, and contractor dedicated to asset growth by building a sustainable business that thrives on quality staff, high-quality products, and profitability. With current growth, they are now seeking an experienced farm hand who shares their passion for agriculture to join their team and help facilitate further development, along with opportunities for career progression. The operation spans 2,830 hectares across two properties, featuring flat to slightly undulating terrain, and manages a total of 7,000 head of cattle during peak seasons, including a cow-calf operation. Cattle are intensively grazed, with shifts occurring every 2 to 5 days across 16-hectare paddocks. The property features well-fenced laneways, four sets of cattle yards, and exceptional infrastructure. Steers are sold to the feedlot market, or they are sent to a fattening property in Victoria with all the heifers. As an experienced farm hand, you will need to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating the ability to think critically about day-to-day tasks. Responsibilities include working with cattle for animal health tasks, moving mobs, loading trucks, and performing basic farm maintenance such as fixing fences and managing water supplies. You will also be involved in contracting business, including calf marking, weaning, mustering, fencing, and yard building. The Offer The successful applicant will receive an attractive salary, a freshly renovated three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, and a work vehicle. Most days, cooked breakfast and lunch will be provided, and there is good Telstra phone service on 95% of the island. Located on beautiful Flinders Island, the house is less than 10 km from the beach, 33 km from Lady Barron, and 25 km from Whitemark, where you can find schools, cafes, and a hospital. A school bus stops at the driveway daily for easy access to local schools. The Island offers partners chances to collaborate and connect with the community for various work opportunities. Flinders Island offers an incredible outdoor lifestyle with numerous activities. There are 30-minute flights to Launceston and 1-hour flights to Melbourne, with daily services available. The company will cover two return flights per year for the applicant and a partner to travel off the island. The Ideal Candidate Candidates must have at least three years of experience in the cattle industry, be confident in animal husbandry practices, and be passionate about the growth and progression of the agricultural industry.
