Based at Westgold's underground operations in the Cue region of Western Australia-home to historic mining centres including Big Bell, Cuddingwarra, Day Dawn, and Tuckabianna-the Alternate Underground Manager plays a key leadership role in shaping safety culture and driving underground productivity. Reporting to the Underground Manager and working an 8 days on / 6 days off roster, this statutory position (as required by WA Mines Regulations) places you at the forefront of daily underground operations-empowering teams, guiding mine planning, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. You'll work closely with leadership to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with strategic business goals. Key Responsibilities Lead and promote a strong underground safety culture Implement the Project Operational Safety Plan (POSP) Champion company values and operational policies Align 13-week targets with calendar and financial year budgets Review and approve underground mine plans (MIs, LENs, SENs, DAFs, MDAFs) Mentor and develop underground engineers Manage underground and surface projects with contractors and principals Approve end-of-month accruals and present site budgets Act as Registered Manager when required Create, submit, and approve Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs) Review operational reports and submit weekly/monthly mining reports to the General Manager Major Responsibility Areas Statutory compliance as Underground Manager Health & Safety leadership Strategic review and approval of mining plans Drive business improvement initiatives Lead underground project execution Develop and support junior engineers Safety Leadership Comply with site safety protocols at all times Promote POSP and safety plans to operational teams Qualifications & Experience Essential: Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) WA First Class Mine Manager's Certificate Current First Aid Certificate Proven experience in underground mine planning and production The Westgold Offer A range of benefits including: A permanent full-time position at a successful gold producer Performance based bonus Group salary continuance insurance A health and wellness allowance Health insurance discount A range of Family and Medical leave policies that includes IVF, surrogacy and adoption.
