Position S ummary R eporting to the Grid En gineering Manager , the Senior Grid Engineer is responsible for managing technical aspects of feasibility, design and planning stages of wind, solar and storage project development. Specifically, the Senior Grid Engineer will work closely within the Development Team as a subject matter expert providing analysis and inputs with respect to grid connection and the National Electricity Market in relation to new sites, evaluate and compare opportunities, refining project design and support planning activities. The Senior Grid Engineer will assist with grid connection applications and provide key support for project registration and R2 testing. The Operation Team will also require support in ongoing compliance with the National Energy Rules ( NER ) and agreed performance standards for operating projects. About the Role Are you passionate about renewable energy and grid engineering? Squadron Energy is seeking a talented Senior Grid Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Grid and Electrical Engineering, you will play a key role in the technical feasibility, design, and planning of wind, solar, and storage projects across Australia. This role can be based in either our Brisbane or Sydney Office. Key Responsibilities Provide technical support for Wind, Solar, and Battery projects, including early-stage grid analysis and site assessments. Identify grid connection opportunities within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and produce GIS maps and presentations. Liaise with AEMO, network service providers, OEMs, and consultants throughout the grid connection process. Manage PSSE and PSCAD models and grid connection studies. Contribute to grid connection, substation, and collector network design. Support procurement and construction teams on grid and electrical BoP contract negotiations and technical issues. Lead GPS compliance monitoring and support ongoing compliance with NER and performance standards. Assist with generator registration, loss factor analysis, and market rule change assessments. Prepare technical documentation and presentations for board papers, investment memorandums, and permitting. Stay up to date with industry technology and best practices. About You Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in grid engineering or related fields. Strong understanding of the National Electricity Market and transmission systems. Experience with AEMO registration, generator connection, and performance standards negotiation. Proficient in power systems modelling (PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory). Experience in substation design and BoP engineering. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Highly organised with strong prioritisation and deadline management abilities.
