Position overview The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a highly skilled Senior Storage Engineer to manage and optimise our enterprise storage, backup, and archiving infrastructure. You will be a key member of the Service & Infrastructure Management / Platform Services section within the Data and Digital Group, providing technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of enterprise platforms. This role requires deep expertise in storage technologies, backup and recovery platforms, and archive solutions. You will ensure the resilience, performance, and scalability of Bureau systems that underpin critical operations. Occasional work in controlled Data Centre environments may be required. This may include limited heavy lifting of equipment in line with WH&S policies. The key duties of the position include: The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Design & Documentation – Develop high- and low-level design documents for storage, backup, and archive infrastructure; maintain clear operational documentation. Administration & Support – Manage enterprise storage and backup platforms including Dell EMC SDS Isilon, Commvault, NetBackup, Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), Versity ScoutAM/ScoutFS, and Spectra Logic Tfinity tape libraries. Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and escalation management. Capacity & Performance Management – Monitor and plan for capacity, performance optimisation, and scalability to meet evolving business needs. Deployment & Migration – Lead deployment, configuration, testing, and migration activities for storage and backup platforms, ensuring minimal disruption. Research & Evaluation – Assess new technologies, standards, and practices; provide recommendations for adoption. Change Management – Participate in change control, ensuring adherence to Bureau standards and compliance. Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective and efficient storage and backup services. Leadership & Mentoring – Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members and other IT specialists. Security and Compliance: Uphold security standards and compliance with regulations, implementing protective measures and monitoring adherence to policies to mitigate risks.
