Your new company An established cultural institution in Western Australia is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Assistant Curator to support the development, documentation, and interpretation of its historical collections. This organisation plays a key role in preserving and showcasing the region’s rich policing heritage through exhibitions, research, and community engagement. Your new role As the Assistant Curator, you will assist in managing the museum’s collections, including objects, images, and documents. You’ll contribute to research, exhibition development, and significant assessments of historical material. This role also involves supporting volunteers and liaising with stakeholders to promote access and engagement with the collection. Key Responsibilities: Assist with documentation, registration, and tracking of collection items using museum database systems.Support acquisitions, collection assessments, and research initiatives.Facilitate access to collections for internal and external stakeholders.Assist with exhibition preparation and installation.Contribute to policy development for item handling, archiving, and storage.Respond to public enquiries and provide curatorial advice.Build relationships with other cultural institutions and heritage organisations. What you'll need to succeed Experience in museum practice, including object handling, conservation, and collection management.Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.Research and analytical capabilities to support collection development and problem-solving.Knowledge of records management principles and relevant legislation. Desirable:Progression toward or possession of a tertiary qualification in Museum Studies, Curatorship, Archival Studies, Archaeology, or History.
