Outpatient D&A services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St. George and Sutherland Hospitals. Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use. The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for the delivery of specialist drug and alcohol nursing consultancy services in hospital and inpatient mental health settings in accordance with the NSW Health Hospital Drug & Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDACL) and SESLHD Emergency Department Assessment Unit (EDAU) Model of Care. The EDAU Model of Care aims to provide a safe, low stimulus environment in which patients displaying behavioural disturbances arising from mental health and/or drug and alcohol related causes can be admitted, assessed and treated by a multidisciplinary team with care co-ordination focus to link into identified treatment and support services. The position delivers clinical leadership and education, and participates in research, quality improvement activities and clinical services planning in accordance with the criteria for a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 as per the NSW Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award. The part-time position will work a 7-day roster with 8 or 10 hour shift pattern and will primarily be based at Prince of Wales Hospital however the successful applicant may be required to rotate to other sites including St George Hospital and Sutherland Hospital. Selection Criteria : Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Driver’s License.Minimum 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaborate within a multidisciplinary frame work with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.Demonstrated involvement in the development /change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
