The Opportunity This opportunity is being offered as a 12-month non-ongoing contract with strong potential to extend or become permanent or a permanent s26 transfer. You will be working under managers who has had extensive experience in Federal government and provide strong mentorship and career development opportunities for their team. The team has good processes in place but there is also an opportunity to look at how processes can be improved to make the role your own. This opportunity is open to candidates currently located in Canberra and Melbourne. The Role As an EL1 Financial Accountant you will: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Ensure compliance with accounting standards and relevant financial regulations Coordinate financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries and reconciliations Monitor and manage financial transactions for accuracy and completeness Provide financial analysis and advice to support business decisions Support internal and external audits and respond to audit queries Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and processes Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and legislative requirements The Ideal Person You are an experienced finance professional, likely with a background in government or external audit, looking to apply your expertise in preparing financial statements. You are degree-qualified and have obtained your CA or CPA. You are known for your strong analytical skills, forward-thinking approach, and ability to provide practical solutions. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills make you a trusted advisor, and you take pride in identifying process improvements and efficiencies.
