The Opportunity This Tax Accountant role sits within a supportive finance team known for its positive culture. Offered as a 12-month non-ongoing contract, there is a strong possibility of extension and a clear pathway to permanency, as it’s a vacant position. This is a great opportunity for high-performing tax accountant currently working in tax firms to transition into the federal government and have a long-term career within APS. The successful candidate will enjoy hybrid working arrangements (typically 2-3 days from home) and have opportunity to act at the EL1 level. The Role Key responsibilities include: Preparation and lodgement of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns and monthly/quarterly BAS Researching and providing taxation advice across GST, FBT, PAYG withholding and contractor superannuation Developing and maintaining tax-related policies, procedures, and reference guides Managing stakeholder relationships and liaising with the ATO and external consultants on tax matters Assisting with tax-related year-end financial reporting and reconciliations Conducting quality assurance, detailed analysis of FBT and GST transactions, and preparing journals The Ideal Person We’re looking for a high-performing candidate with strong attention to detail, a solid foundation in tax, and several years of experience specialising in GST and FBT. You are likely to come from one of the following backgrounds: Experience as a Tax Accountant or Senior Tax Accountant in a Big 4 firm Extensive experience in a mid-tier tax and business advisory firm at the Senior Tax Accountant or Manager level To be eligible, you must be an Australian Citizen.
