We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Science Laboratory Manager to join our vibrant school community. This key role supports the delivery of engaging and safe science education by managing the day-to-day operations of the school’s science laboratories. Working closely with teaching staff, the Science Laboratory Manager ensures that all practical lessons are well-prepared, equipment and materials are maintained and available, and safety protocols are strictly followed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for students. This is an exciting time to join our team, with a brand-new, state-of-the-art science building currently under construction, designed to enhance hands-on learning and support innovative science education. The position is permanent, part time for 37.5 hours per week, 41 weeks per year commencing on 13 October 2025. Key Responsibilities The role of the Science Laboratory Manager is to ensure all laboratory operations operate efficiently, effectively and safely to meet the needs of the science curriculum. Prepare and manage resources, equipment, and materials for all science practical lessons (Years 7–12). Support teachers and students during practical classes, including demonstrations and experimental design. Maintain, calibrate, and repair scientific equipment; ensure accurate records are kept. Trial and validate new experiments; recommend safe alternatives where necessary. Oversee safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in line with WHS standards. Conduct risk assessments and develop safe operating procedures for laboratory activities. Manage stock control, purchasing, and inventory systems for science resources. Use software tools such as RiskAssess and ChemWatch for scheduling and chemical management. Care for live specimens and plants, including reporting requirements for flora and fauna. Promote and model a safe, organised, and collaborative laboratory environment. About You You are a professional, organised, and safety-conscious individual with a passion for supporting science education in a school environment. You will bring: Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, suppliers, and the wider school community. A commitment to excellence in laboratory operations, with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software such as RiskAssess and ChemWatch. High attention to detail and accuracy in managing scientific resources, records, and administrative tasks. A sound understanding of WHS standards and safe laboratory practices, including chemical handling and equipment maintenance. Integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities. Ability to manage competing priorities and follow tasks through to completion in a dynamic school setting. Experience in coordinating practical lessons and supporting curriculum delivery across multiple science disciplines. A proactive approach to problem-solving and supporting staff and students in practical science activities.
