Temporary, Full-time (12 months) | $137,358.18 - $159, 150.21 12% superannuation | Hurstville About the Role Georges River Council is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Coordinator Environmental Sustainability and Waste to join our dynamic and busy Environment, Health and Regulatory Services Team. The successful candidate will co-ordinate the development and implementation of strategies, plans, policies, contracts and programs that protect and enhance the natural environment and improve the environmental sustainability of the Local Government Area. Furthermore, to build and enhance organisation knowledge and capacity to implement environmentally sustainable practices and waste management initiatives to deliver quality environmental outcomes. The position involves preparing tenders, securing and managing grant funding, and driving initiatives that promote sustainable practices across Council and the community. You’ll also represent Council in meetings, committees, and regional collaborations, while staying abreast of emerging technologies and legislative changes. As the Coordinator, you’ll support staff development and ensure high-quality service delivery, acting as a key escalation point for customer and councillor enquiries. This is a dynamic role for someone passionate about environmental resilience and community impact. What We Offer Temporary, Full-Time position – 70 hours per fortnight (12-month parental leave cover) Salary range $137,358.18 - $159,150.21 per annum, plus 12% superannuation Vehicle Allowance Opportunity to work a 9-day fortnight Hybrid working arrangement – with flexible start and finish times Health and Wellbeing Paid Leave Fitness Passport Program offering discounted membership for you and your family to selected facilities Employee Assistance Program Employee Rewards Program Ongoing Education and Resources What We Are Looking For Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability or related field Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing plans, policies, programs and associated works that will enhance the natural environment Demonstrated experience in project management, including project briefs and timelines, preparing budgets within constraints and post project evaluation Extensive experience in waste services contract management including local government procurement legislation, the writing and evaluation of tenders and high attention to detail in managing contractor performance in line with contract requirements Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to develop innovative, practical solutions to complex and potentially sensitive environmental management matters Demonstrated understanding and application of relevant waste and environmental legislation Sound influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to interact and communicate with diverse stakeholders Proven extensive experience in people leadership, development and engagement with the ability to motivate, and create a positive workplace culture while ensuring performance in line with Council’s policies and processes Experience managing multi-million-dollar operational budgets, and financial reserves Class C Drivers Licence If you possess the attributes located in the Position Description essential criteria, then please submit your application today.
