About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Food Microbiologist to join our laboratory team, specialising in Confirmation Analysis . In this role, you will be responsible for performing confirmatory testing on microbial isolates from food, or product samples, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client specifications. This is a critical position for ensuring food safety, product quality, and the integrity of our microbiological testing processes. To be successful for this role you must be available to work full-time across the following days and times: Monday, Tuesday & Friday 8:45am to 5:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 7:30am to 3:45pm. Please note that there may be overtime hours as required. Key Responsibilities: Perform confirmation and identification of microbial isolates from preliminary positive results. Utilise microbiological methods including biochemical, serological, and cultural techniques to identify pathogens and indicator organisms. Interpret and validate results in accordance with ISO, NATA, TGA and other regulatory protocols. Maintain detailed records, ensure data integrity, and generate accurate lab reports. Participate in quality control/assurance activities , method validations, and troubleshooting of analytical issues. Collaborate with analysts, lab supervisors, and QA personnel to ensure smooth workflow and timely reporting. Follow all safety and biosafety protocols in a high-throughput laboratory environment. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology , or related field. Minimum three years previous laboratory and relevant industrial experience (preferably in the food industry) Hands-on experience with microbial culture, isolation, and identification methods. Familiarity with confirmation protocols for pathogens such as Salmonella , Listeria , E. coli , Campylobacter , etc. Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025). Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Previous work in a contract testing lab or accredited food microbiology lab. Knowledge of GMP and GLP principles. Investigating and resolving technical queries.
