About the Opportunity: A leading NSW Government agency is seeking experienced professionals to join their Land Access and Property Acquisition team . These roles are essential to ensuring major infrastructure projects meet their land access requirements on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of fairness and integrity. We are recruiting for two distinct roles: Role 1: Property Acquisition Officer (3 positions available) Key Responsibilities Manage the property acquisition process from initiation through to completion. Review internal and external valuation reports to support acquisition decisions. Prepare initial internal cost estimates for upcoming projects. Update and maintain acquisition progress within government systems. Liaise with compulsory acquisition teams, internal lawyers, and external stakeholders including property owners, councils, Sydney Water, Crown Lands, and other government agencies. Participate in fortnightly project meetings, providing updates and flagging issues. Negotiate with property owners (with senior support as needed), ensuring respectful and professional communications. Role 2: Senior Acquisition Officer / Acquisition Manager (1 position available) Key Responsibilities Lead more complex acquisition matters, including commercial properties, development sites, and business acquisitions. Oversee negotiations for high-value or sensitive acquisitions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Provide expertise across residential and commercial property acquisitions. Assist regional teams on acquisitions across NSW when required. Mentor and support colleagues by sharing specialist acquisition knowledge. Engage in strategic stakeholder management across politically sensitive and technically challenging acquisitions. ✅ Requirements – All Roles Key Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated broad experience in real estate valuation and knowledge of valuation for land acquisition purposes. Strong understanding of legislation, including: Roads Act 1993, Transport Administration Act 1988, Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991, Native Title Act 1993, Local Government Act 1993, Crown Lands Act 1989, Conveyancing Act 1919, Real Property Act 1900. Proven experience in compulsory acquisition of land for government infrastructure projects. High-level understanding of the infrastructure project lifecycle and its land access requirements. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to manage politically sensitive issues. Ability to manage high-volume, complex transactions accurately and within deadlines. Experience Level: Property Acquisition Officer: 7 years in property acquisition roles. Senior Acquisition Officer: 10 years in property acquisition, with commercial and residential experience. ⚠️ Key Challenges Maintaining expertise in property acquisition to ensure best practice and consistency across the agency.
