SLR Consulting is looking for an experienced, commercially savvy leader to step into the key role of Global Commercial Director – Mining Advisory. About the business and role As part of the Global Advisory Division, this is more than a legal role—it's a high-impact position where you’ll shape and support the commercial integrity of our mining advisory business across the globe. You’ll report directly to the Global Mining Advisory Director and work closely with our Head of Legal - APAC and senior leadership to protect, guide, and grow the business through robust legal and risk frameworks. This role is essential in de-risking the business while enabling commercial agility, helping our global teams deliver high-quality mining advisory services with confidence and compliance. You will also have a great opportunity for a seamless induction as the prior incumbent is now the APAC Head of Legal, so all those usual questions about certain aspects of the business – they have the answers ready for you! This is a part-time (3 days a week) opportunity, with specific days/hours to be discussed with the successful applicant. Job tasks & Responsibilities Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts with both clients and suppliers and provide proactive, practical advice on commercial risk, compliance, and internal governance. Work with the Head of Legal to develop and improve systems for contract standardisation, training, and operational engagement; manage legal and commercial disputes to align with business objectives. Be a strong communicator who supports the business in managing client matters such as public reporting, reliance issues, conflicts of interest; provide input on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliances. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will be proactive, confident and enjoy working in a collaborative environment as well as possess the following: Admitted Solicitor (at least 5 years PAE) with in-house legal or corporate legal counsel experience Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, including IP, insurance, M&A, and litigation Legal experience in advisory or consulting services, ideally with mining or ESG exposure Experience working in a global business is advantageous but not essential Practical understanding of commercial risks tied to reliance, public reporting, and conflicts of interest Clear communicator who can translate legal language into business language Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude Commercial mindset with sophisticated problem-solving and negotiation skills High attention to detail and a disciplined approach to legal process and compliance We are proud of our unique culture where we work together to collaborate on projects to get the best possible outcome for our clients.
